IMAGES FROM THE ASIAN STEPPE

I had the opportunity to visit the Steppe south of Aktyubinsk, Kazakhstan in the Spring of 1996 (longitude 58 east and latitude 48-43' north). I was surprised to find that the landscape and climate are very similar to the western great plains and/or the southwest of the United States. Since this region is close to some of the famous Paleolithic sites of Asia, I thought the reader might enjoy seeing a few images.
